Yes, every line's got one to limit input at
exchange matrix to -12dB/m Which is why, if
you limit your transmit level to that, the
AGC amp shouldn't bite.
Better to switch off the amp tho and feed -12dB/m
yourself. However, that is _your_ modem into
_your_ socket. There may be attenuation after
that before your line gets to the exchange so
experiment?
