subject: Home Office Set Up and Communications

Re: home office organization
This is my favorite subject, as it should pretain to all, and it is a matter
of evolution, as new methods and tools are tried. It seems there always comes
a better way to do things.
Communications is one of the key goals of a home office. What use if you have
laser printer, a 586, and thousands of dollars worth of equipment, but it is
not sending or receiving at least 5-10 messages a day? I think the average
person can handle about 40 mixed messages a day, combination, phone calls,
mail, email and fax, if a good amount is for stock information. Detailed
legal discussions can suck up a lot of time and mental exercise. 1-2 of those
can take up a whole day.
I have just begun to use Internet Email, and so far it is doing well. My only
complaint on that is despite what we hear and see, 80% of the vendors and
customers I talk to don't have their email address, or dont' use it. Net
email is perhaps the most valuable part of the Net, as pointed out by many
magazine and articles. Who wants to read data and graphics all day long? But
again, having email access and not using it wisely is another waste.
All forms of communications are important, mail, telephone, personal visits,
fax, and email. In each category we should try to sound and look good. A
combination use of all these modes is best. The drawback on email seems that
it is transitory, and many take the information they get for granted, it is
too easy and too abundant. It seems to be free, and free ends up taken for
granted, of no value for some. But that is not all true, some of the best
replies and information can be had via email and BBS's. It all depends who is
communicating on the other side. So, it boils down to individual quality,
just as mail, phone call and faxes, technology takes us so far, but if the
other side is ignorant and stupid, reads everything wrong, then its hopeless.
We only have time for hopeful cases, and even that there is not time enough
in the day.
I welcome any comments.
