If I get leg or back pains which go away when I walk I take this as a
broad hint that I need to do more walking. If I get leg or foot cramps
when I lie down which go away when I stand up and move around I take
it as a sign that my leg blood circulation is poor. I find that doing
a few miles of walking a day soon improves it.

So for me the answer is walking. If I don't walk enough my legs start
degenerating. YMMV.
