BG> Is your Dynalink a DSVD (voice) modem? If so, it should be flashable.
No, it isn't DSVD modem (or the manual forgot to mention that). It
looks now that Askey Aust. lied in that press release (I assume
you've seen a message addressed to me about that memory chip).
TP> I'll ring their tech support and try to find out for sure.

I'm looking forward to the call. I'm just waiting until I know for
sure that my ROM is only a ROM. I sure ask them about BTLZ problem,
I'd like to have a fully capable modem even if I don't need it at
the moment.
BG> problem with BTLZ. It must be a pain running without data
I don't really care much at the moment, I'm either dealing with
compressed files or text - and to read text I have to pause every
page anyway (I could keep up reading on 1200 bps modem and just just
on 2400).

BG> What does your manual say about it?
I can't find anything on disabling v42/forcing MNP. Wrong, just
spotted it: S15=128. S27=32 disables v32bis on my model.
TP> The manual doesn't mention anything.
BG> That's strange. If flashable, I'd expect the manual to reflect that.
Modem is designed by USR, manual is their own job. If you are
interested I can netmail AT$, AT&$ and ATS$ output, I trust it more
than the manual.
BG> Dunno, I still haven't actually seen one in the flesh yet.
If I go as far south as Logan I'll give you a call and bring one for
inspection :-).
TP> I do call there about twice a week for two reasons: so I can read
TP> USR echo and my modem can practice 33.6k connects :-).
BG> Which reminds me, are you still living up on Mt Glorious, as we were
BG> rather curious as to why you have such incredibly good lines?
I used to live in Mt. Glorious next door to the exchange and had
pretty good lines for that area. Also become friendly with Telecom
techs, there were about 4 regular guys working in the area and from
time to time on hot summer day I would wonder to talk to them during
their lunchbreak (with a cold sixpack). Guess whose phone line was
fixed first after bad thunderstorm (and they do get bad up there)?
Now I'm in Ferny Hills, about 1-2km. to the exchange and I'm quite
happy with the line. BTW, what's the significance of near and far
echo loss?
Cheers,
Tom
