Just a reminder that the Telescope Optics Workshop is now only three weeks away.
Bellingham, Washington.
The 12th annual Telescope Optics Workshop is scheduled for March 21,22,23,
2003 and will set new standards for astronomical workshops. Along with a
new scheduling format, we are offering a 3 day refractor optics and
fabrication class. This years project is making/figuring/testing 8 inch
doublets (200mm) based on the fraunhofer design. These doublets will make
outstanding instruments for the student, and provide a tremendous amount of
knowledge and pride gained from such an ambitious project. Instructor is
Roger Ceragioli. There is still one opening for this class.
Our Keynote speaker Dick Buchroeder is well known for his outstanding work
in the field of optics for both his contributions to ATM and telescope
designs, but also in his applied designs in government and military optical
instrumentation. We will be covering a number of subjects related to
optical design amd will also explore correctors for doublets and other
optical systems. This will directly relate to the refractors being
fabricated in the classroom, along with the now popular short focal length
refractors on the market, and with correctors for photography; both film
and digital.
This year we invite all participants to bring mounts for telescopes,
binoculars and other optical/visual instuments for a special
presentation/show and tell, session. This should be a great opportunity to
see new ideas and some very interesting mountings for a wide variety of
scopes. This session is based on our highly popular spotting scope
discussion from 2 years ago. All mounts will be discussed, no matter what
size and design. So please bring your mounts, mount projects, and ideas
for a great discussion.
The workshop has a dedicated room for testing optics, and several rooms for
presentations along with display areas for your projects and finished
scopes and equipment. There is also a swap meet, and plenty of other
presentations and speakers.
This is a great opportunity for ATM's and those interested in astronomical
equipment to exchange ideas and learn from individuals with tremendous
amounts of knlowlegde, information and ideas.
This is the only 8" doublet class i know of and probably the only
opportunity to make such optics under the eyes of an excelent instructor.
If you have any questions, please post to me off list.
We welcome you to the 2003 workshop.
