Win2000 is a bit different than XP in the naming of folders. However,
the concept is still the same. Just make a backup of the contents of
the \system32\catroot folder before deleting it. The procedure
definitely works with XP Pro and Home.
MS in their wisdom? has changed the way the critical update page
operates several times since last year. If you've been keeping up with
the news on this - the critical update page now transmits quite a bit of
data about your hardware back to MS. Who knows what else the "evil
empire" is gathering from your system. Sounds paranoid doesn't it?
Regards.
