I suppose.  I really don't see any point using them internally or locally. 
Not a big deal to slap them on outboud though, just like the
 case for the DOS systems that require them for their
BBS editor of choice.  A tad different situation but the result is somewhat
the same (extra bloat).

That was one situation I as thinking of.  Got under everyone's radar
despite all the sysops in that echo noticing it.  So much for MSGID eh? 
Everyone of those messages was a true dupe that not one tosser caught.
