I am not up on the details, but I have heard stories from a medic from
the Viet Nam war. Soldiers with sores out in the field who ended up getting
maggots had their sores heal better than those who did not.
However, as with the medical use of leeches, I would consider the
"gross-out" factor to be a major hindrance to the wide spread acceptance of
such a procedure.
