Hi Ron... If its heating power you are looking for, then both the MSR 
Whisperlite (my stove) and the Peak 1 Apex boil 1 qt. of water in about 
4minutes and 30 seconds. The MSR model is easy to repair, and more durable 
and compact than the Peak 1 model, however the Peak 1 Apex has the dersirable 
capability to simmer. The MSR is either 'on' or 'off' (very poor for frying). 
Backpacker magazine gave the Whisperlite a 4.5/5 rating and the Peak 1 apex a 
4/5 rating. Either way, you'll get a good stove... I'd go with the 
Whisperlite (or the MSR XGK- burns ANYTHING).
