Uhmmm, I think you wanted "pared" instead of "paired".  They sound the same, 
but the first one means "peel" and the second one means "put to gether by 
twos..as in Noah's Ark."

Looks like a Baldwin recipe - that's a kind of apple I can get here.  Tart 
and very hard.  It makes great pies.

Are these the red or black currants?  I'm a cassis [black currant] fan from 
farther back than I care to remember.:-)
