>Too bad you don't do ship and crew profiles. Those might be pretty cool!

Okay, here's a personnel profile. With all of this talk about old Trek and=
 the original stories
I wrote, I was digging through the old file folders and into the archives. =
 I found this person,
Admiral Yemia. It's too bad I never used her more. I always planned to,
b= ut in the end,
never did. I haven't thought much about her in many years.

Steve-Trek Personnel Profile: Yemia

Species/Race: Odonan (sankrajic)

[Note: "sankrajic" is one of the three racial groupings of
Odonans, based = on average height
and density of san or body hair. Sankrajic Odonans are shorter in average
= height and have
the higher density of san. They form the majority of the population; about=
 70% of all Odonans
are sankrajic]

Full Name: Yemia (see below for why she has only a single name)

Place of Birth: listed as Odonas, Odona

Date of Birth: (25)188-4-16 [Odonan dates; these are not converted, since=
 I was too lazy to
haul out the Odonan date-to-Earth date converter program]

Height: 1.55 m

Weight: 49 kg

Eyes: black

Hair: straight, black

Physical Deformaties/Injuries: none established

Physical Characterstics: In fact, this is what Yemia is known for. She
wa= s the result of an unethical
and illegal experiment by some Odonan scientists. Because the Odonans
unde= rstand their genetic
code very well, they know what each gene does and what they code for, and
t= hey have a deep under-
standing in how the genes form chromosomes and how the overall set of genes=
 influences the physical
and in some respects the emotional development of the individual. With
thi= s in mind, this team of
scientists decided to create the "perfect" Odonan. They took the
coding fo= r the genes that produced
the best and most desirable physical effects, and carefully built them up
i= n a lab.  They used advanced
replicator technology to produce a viable cell nucleus, and then used
stand= ard Odonan cloning
techniques (also well-developed) to insert this new nucleus in an ovum from=
 a volunteer. This woman
was implanted with the embryo and carried the baby to term. At the same
ti= me, the same team
produced a second nucleus, this one to produce a male. It is unknown what
= became of him (story
material here, perhaps). Once Yemia was born, the controversery
surroundin= g her creation and birth
became a major scandal, which brought down the planetary government of
Phil= le, which sponsored the
scientists. Yemia became a ward of the state. Since she had no
"real" par= ents, she does not have a=20
family name. She has only her given name. She has no siblings and no
pare= nts, and so was not
bonded to any other person. She never married nor became a parent.

With her genetic heritage, it should not be surprising that Yemia was very
= attractive, and had above-average
intelligence. She was personable, and even somewhat charistmatic, and
show= ed natural leadership
skills at a young age. Many other children became extremely jealous of her=
, so Yemia became somewhat
withdrawn and rather quiet. She was a prolific writer and reader in her
ea= rlier days, and travelled to the
Federation, studying on Earth, Vulcan, Kent and some other planets before
r= eturning to Odona.

Character Traits: above average intelligence, above average physical
appea= rance and athletic ability, no inherited genetic defects, not a
carrier of any genetic defect. Yemia was known as a natural leader, and
charismatic. She was somewhat alo= of and often regarded others
as her inferior. She allowed nobody to get close to her, perhaps because
i= n her upbringing, nobody showed
any kind of closeness to her.
Yemia had a reputation for listening to advice but with her mind already
ma= de up, and then going with what
she originally had decided. Some called her selfish. Others called her
de= termined, so when she was set on a
course of action, she was not going to be deterred and would see it through= .

Summary Outline of Life:
[note, dates as given are Odonan; the Odonan year is a little longer than
E= arth's year, and the Odonan year
333 (or 25,333) corresponds with Earth year 2258]

188-Yemia born, with no natural parents; she is a laboratory creation and
b= ecomes a ward of the state.

227-Yemia completes her education

260-Yemia travels to Earth, and studies at several universities there, and
= also teaches a little.

263-Yemia spends a year at the Vulcan Science Academy

264-Yemia travelled to Kent, and vacationed there for six months. At Kent,=
she had the idea of joining Starfleet,
but at this time, Starfleet did not allow non-Federation citizens to join,
= and her government forbid it. Instead, she decided to join the Odonan
Space Service.

270-Yemia completed her time at the Training Directorate, and achieved a
ra= nk equivalent to ensign and her
first assignment; in the three years she was served on board the Ngizgo,
sh= e was considered an exemplary
member of the crew, and held in high regards by the senior officers. She
s= tarted off in science, moved into
command and basically tried to master every department on a starship.

274-Promotion to lieutenant-equivalent rank, and moved up the command
hiera= rchy. The Ngizgo spent considerable time outside of Odonan space.

286-By this time, Yemia had the rank of lieutenant commander, and was the
c= hief science officer on the Ngizgo, and the second officer as well. The
ship saw significant action during the=
 third Klingon-Odonan war, with Yemia
being instrumental in developing new sensor algorithms to help detect
cloak= ed Klingon ships. Her efforts led to the decisive Odonan victory at
Seserphon, after which time the Klingons wit= hdrew from occupied
territories and agreed to a ceasefire.

290-Yemia was firmly in the command track now. She became the first
office= r on the Melibank, a new class of deep- space exploration vessels.
In her ten years on that ship, she had a distin= guished career, but her
"debates"--some would say disputes--with her captain, Laerdo
Leqebba, became legendary. Th= e older man tolerated Yemia and
the way she sometimes criticized his decisions and his actions.

303-After leaving the Melibank, Yemia moved into a more tactical unit of
th= e Odonan Space Service, and was part of several clandestine missions
into Klingon space, mostly search-and-destr= oy missions. In her most
famous
mission in this era, she was part of a team that tracked down a vital piece=
of Odonan technology, and in the
process learned more about those behind the project to create her and what
= the ultimate objective of that project was [note: this incident is one
of the two long stories I wrote featuring = Yemia, called "The
Core," written in 1984]

329-By this time, Yemia had achieved the rank of Admiral (in Odonan
termino= logy, that is like a fleet captain), and was considered one of two
of the most powerful non-HQ ship commanders a= t the time, along with
Hualei Chiang. The two women had something of a rivalry, and it was bitter
at times. In t= his year, the Kwons rose to power and attempted to usurp
control of the Odonan government. They had plans to exp= and the Odonan
Empire, retake
the lost worlds from the Klingons, basically wipe out the Klingons and then=
take control of the Federation. They
managed to get Yemia in on these plans, and appointed her the new head of
t= he Odonan Space Service. The
part of the Service loyal to Chiang and the previous command hierarchy
beca= me determined to dispose of the
Kwons and restore the previous government. The conflicts that followed
bec= ame known as the "Odonan Civil War." The war turned for the
Kwons when Chiang was finally able to convince Yemia=
the error of her ways. Together,
they got enough of the Space Service to desert the Kwons that they had no
c= hoice but to flee--although they did not get far. [this particular
incident formed the basis of the story "The = Despots," written
in 1979]

331-After the situation in the Odonan Empire settled down, Yemia found
hers= elf demoted to captain and stripped of her command. She resigned
from the Service, and accused Chiang of ultim= ately mastermining her
demise
as a way to remove a rival from her own sense of power. This despite
Chian= g saying, "I'll never be more than a commander in the
Service." That's not really true, as Chiang eventually di= d become a
Councilor, but she decided to never attempt to seek the top job.

331-358-Little is established on this period in Yemia's life, although she
= did do some work for Ileo. The missions are classified, of course.

359-Yemia petitions for re-instatement to the Space Service, saying that is=
 her "preferred and ultimate calling."
The petition is accepted, and Yemia is restored to the position of captain.=
She is given a posting of a first officer
on the Soltis.

364-Yemia is promoted to admiral/fleet captain, and given command of the
Om= ni-class starship Tola, which would be her most famous command.
Through her connections, she had assembled a c= ommand crew consisting of
individuals she had grown to know and trust. The Tola becomes almost a
"se= cond flagship" (Chiang commanding
the Star Empire II and later the Prodakh is considered to command the
"flag= ship" in much the same sense that
Picard's Enterprise is consideed the flagship of the Federation), and the
s= hip does achieve a level of distinction for what it accomplishes.

375-Yemia confronts Tyrannian pirates attacking Ninh, and chases them into
= unexplored space. There, her ship
and the Tyrannian vessel is stopped by the Metrons. This is the other
writ= ten Yemia story, "The Challenger,"
written in 1987, and it plays a lot like the TOS episode "The
Arena," where=
Yemia has to use her intelligence
and other attributes to avoid being attacked and killed by the Tyrannian.
= In the end, she turns the table on both the Tyrannians and the Metrons,
calling the latter "smug and self-satisfied=
and in desperate need to be put in
their places." This story featured a much more brash and aggressive
Yemia = than the other story did. She had a sense of simmering anger that
exploded once she had the advantage on the Ty= rannian.

382-The death of Admiral Yemia. A mobile Federation operations platform
(b= asically a small starbase with warp drive that can be moved around to
where it is needed in a conflict situatio= n) near Odonan space, there to
monitor the rising hostilities between the Klingons and the Odonans, was
infected b= y a transspecies disease that has as its most common effects an
increased hostility and anger, and a certain amo= unt of dementia. The
Odonans on
board the station quickly die gruesome deaths, so the commander of the
stat= ion decided that the Odonans were
responsible for bringing the disease on board the station and he wants
reve= nge. He takes the station to the nearest Odonan planet, Pusedchou.
Both the Tola and the Potemkin, a Federation sta= rship, respond to this
situation.
Because the disease is virulent and has no cure, nobody can beam onto the
s= tation, but both ships work with what information they have to develop a
treatment. Yemia, however, announces th= at if the station approaches
Pusedchou and drops out of warp, she has no choice but to destroy it. This
causes a = confliect with the Potemkin's captain, whose sister is on board
the station. In the end, the best medical minds a= vailable to the two
ships were unable to develop the cure. The station dropped out of warp and
approached Pusedc= hou. Yemia prepared the Tola to
fire on the station to destroy it, despite the protestations from the
Potem= kin. As she was ready to fire, the Potemkin fired on the Tola,
momentarily disabling the shields on the Odonan=
ship. A second round of fire from
the Potemkin caused significant damage to the Tola, including disabling its=
primary weapons. The loss of the
shields allowed infected individuals from the station to beam onto the Tola=
, infecting the crew. Yemia, with her=20
enhanced genetic profile, appeared to be immune from this disease, but she
= was not fully sure if she would stay immune. She thought about
Pusedchou, and about how that planet could becom= e vulnerable within
minutes. She
had no choice but to approach the station and set her warp drive to quantum=
-implode self-destruct. Pusedchou
self-defense ships moved on the scene and kept the Potemkin back as the
Tol= a completed its final appraoch. It exploded, destroying the station
and saving the planet. Yemia was called a=
hero for the sacrifice she made, and
which many thought was uncharacteristic of her. [In 1982, I wrote a
two-pa= ge outline for this story, but never got around to writing it;
maybe some day, I should; nevertheless, the outline i= tself is considered
canon in Steve-Trek]

The dates are subject to change.

And there's a personnel profile for you.
