I get the same thing. I keep it under control by taking calcium citrate and
magnesium at bedtime. I still get them occasionally. I agree that standing
up is the quick cure but they may come back when you lay down again. I never
get them when sleeping on my side with legs bent.
Others have said that potassium helps but it didn't work for me. YMMV
