GW> I can't believe you're still here. It has been years since I last
GW> visited the Audio echo. Traffic is much lower than it was five or six
GW> years ago. But, it seems that all of Fidonet is that way these days.
GW> How long have you been getting on this echo? It has been more than ten
GW> years since I first got on and I seem to recall that you were actively
GW> involved at that time.
GW> Anyway, down to business:
GW> Do you have any suggestions for a source for turntables? Maybe a good
GW> used table? Some of us still have many hundreds of LPs. My Thorens
GW> table has a built in tonearm and it has a broken wire in the arm.
GW> There doesn't seem to be any way to gain access to the wiring in the

GW> turntable. Everything available new seems to either be elcheapo $99
GW> tables with arms that only accept p-mount cartridges or megabuck tables
GW> that cost more than my house. I have two Sure V15 type 5 standard
GW> mount cartridges that I want to continue to use. Any ideas will be
GW> greatly appreciated! See ya! george.wells@toltbbs.com
How about checking out dealers who sell DJ equipment? While they aren't
true "audiopile" equipment, the tables these dealers sell are much higher
quality than the entry-level junk that's available on the consumer market.
It's lamentable that these cheap tables are the only things available in
consumer audio stores.
Actually, my table is Technics entry-level junk one. I do sometimes wish I'd
gotten something better, but this thing does fit into my cabinet. It's a
DC servo motor driven belt drive, P-Mount.
If you do find something that uses regular cartridges and can't find a
standard
mount in the future, some P-mounts are universal mounting, which means they
can be plugged into a P-mount arm or mounted in the standard style.
