RNC? No. Republicans? Absolutely. If you'd said "all Republicans", I'd have said no. But I do believe that a significant percentage of the membership of your party feels that way. See Gary Britt's earlier reply for an example. >It is only a comic book. And a ridiculous one at that. >You really have to >stretch to apply this to Republicans loving alternative histories. Nah, it's all of a piece. Heck, you heard members of our conservative contingent posit a Dick Cheney run for office, then take media members to task for bashing him. It's endemic to many Republicans. Consider that the Republicans have the White House, both houses of Congress, and have appointed seven of nine Supreme Court justices. Given the tepid (and falling) public support for Bush shown in recent months, and the fear of losing seats in off-year elections, they have to do something to make sure their voting base doesn't get complacent. That "something" is, invariably, to blame Democrats and "liberals" for the whatever happens to be bothering Republican voters, even when Democrats haven't had the power to do anything in six years. >What about this Dean quote: > >"The president and his right-wing Supreme Court think it is 'okay' to have >the government take your house if they feel like putting a hotel where >your house is," > >Talk about alternative histories.
