I was a telecom manager in a former life and worked out all the headroom needed for a modem carrier. Most telco muxing equipment intended to cram more voice paths over copper lines didn't account for the added frequency range of modems. Your call to aunt tillie sounded OK, but your 56K v.everything modem would only get a 26400 connect, for example. I miss the days of running the BBS off an ISDN line with a Motorola BitSurfr. I could do extremely CLEAN analog calls on one B-Channel, dial out to the internet to get my mail or surf on the other B-Channel, bond them both to get a 112kbps internet connection to my office, or take ISDN calls. Expensive, though. Measured rate all day long. --kW --- SBBSecho 2.12-Win32* Origin: realitycheckBBS | http://www.realitycheckbbs.org (1:218/700) SEEN-BY: 3/0 633/267 640/954 712/0 313 550 620 848 @PATH: 218/700 10/1 261/38 712/848 633/267 |
