I have an Epson 14.4 fax modem card (PCMCIA) in a Toshiba T1910 notebook
which has never worked. The problem is that it simply refuses to recognize
a dialtone. I have tried everything I can think of including setting all
the registers, but it just won't. It *will* recognize an incoming call.

This card is supposed to support CCITT V.21, 22, 23 (EFM144 only), V32,bis,
V42 and V.42 bis. I have read some other messages in a thread about some
modems failing to recognize dialtone....wonder if anyone has any possible
remedies to this problem? I have a Maestro 14400 exec on the same phone
line which works like a dream. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
