I'm not at all familiar with the 400s, but I can only surmise that they are either doing the same thing as the old T-200s, or they have a higher REN, and are putting an excessive load on your line. Might be time to invest $15 in a mode-3 adapter, which should solve ALL problems with parallel phones.
