I recall running across accounts of polishing experiments with heavy,
carbide grits well pressed into pitch, so the barely exposed grit edges act
sort of like the blade in a wood plane. Was I dreaming? Sounds like it
would beat the heck out of polishing pads, until the inevitable
SCREEEECHH!!!
