Hello Augustin,
Thanks for all the useful information on import duty
and tax implications. The woman I called from US customs in Portland,
OR. claimed the duty on an imported vessel (non-US manufacture) would
only be 1-1/2 to 2%. I would call Seattle and perhaps San Francisco
to compare before I ever ventured forward.
As a side note: I just read that US Customs now will charge US
residents $25 to RE-ENTER the US after a few days sailing in Canadian
(or other foreign) waters. This may be old news to most in this echo,
I think the magazine I saw this in was a few months old. Then there was
a side-story claiming US Immigration wants to start charging US residents
something like $15 each time they re-enter the country, too.
This is an insult to taxpayers. The arrogance of our politicians knows
no limits.
(sorry for the accidental jibe off-topic here)
AH> Whatever you do, Good Luck!!, and may the Angels of Happy
AH> Re-entries be with you.
And to you, Augustin!
Regards,
-Mike
