They CAN be very loud, as all the Aratinga family conures can. And yes,
my breeders ARE loud, especially when they have babies to feed and they
run out of soft foods!
But I've found that a single tame conure kept as a pet can be taught NOT
to be so loud *most* of the time (you can not teach a bird to NEVER
scream--they must be allowed to use their voices when frightened). You
simply reward accepted behaviors with your presence and attention, and
ignore (and isolate if possible) the bird when it is screaming. RUN to
reward quiet, and RUN AWAY when the bird makes unacceptable noises.
