You mentioned that Derek Jacoby was in I, CLAUDIUS.  I then proposed Brian 
Blessed as being more the right physical type, and said:

Well, re-wind I, CLAUDIUS back to the beginning, before Caesar Augustus gets 
murdered, and you'll find Brian Blessed there.    You'll also find him in 
Branagh's film _Henry V_, in Branagh's _Much Ado About Nothing_, in Kevin 
Costner's _Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves_, and the 1980 _Flash Gordon_
 
I have a sneaking suspicion that he's also in John Boorman's _Excalibur_, but 
that's probably because half the known British Theatre world is in there 
somewhere.  Every time somebody hits it big (Helen Mirren, Nicolas Grey, 
Patrick Stewart, Liam Nissan) you see a repeat of _Excalibur_ and hey presto, 
they're in there.
