You should take her in right before 6 months. Some kittens
can actually go into heat before that, so if she starts
meowing like crazy and arching her back really high when you
pet her tail area, she's in heat!
The horror stories you've heard probably involve all the
howling the cat does when she's in heat. It's pretty awful!
The neighbors complain if you live in an apartment! hahaha
Anyway, going intoheat is not life-threatening in any way,
it's just loud and can result in a houseful of kitties that
will need homes....get her spayed before that happens...:-)
