Greetings All,
I am using Quicken V.3.0 (the English ver) with Windows 3.1.
I have three separate files set up within Quicken. Two are fine but the
third is throwing up the following before I get into the account:
Application Error
General Protection Fault in
Module QW.EXE at 0001:50A5
Unfortunately the same thing is happening with the backup. Anyone got
any ideas about a) why, and b) if it can be overcome?
Regards
Anne

General Protection Faults and "Out of memory" messages in Windows 3.x
are frequently caused by running out of system resources. Windows has
two FIXED 64k memory heaps (GDI/USR), and the FIXED amount of
CONVENTIONAL memory (area below 640k) which are usually the cause.
Since none of these are expandable, you need to OPTIMIZE the use of
these resources to address this problem. This involves:
1) Avoid a CLUTTERED desktop. Minimize the number of ICONS, open
groups and cute utilities like CLOCKS/resource monitors, etc.
2) Discontinue using screen savers/wallpaper that use LARGE photos
or complex graphics.
3) Use a 256-color or less video driver, at a reasonable reso-
lution (appropriate to your use). MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE
LATEST VERSION OF VIDEO DRIVER for your video card!!!!
4) Use MEMMAKER or a third-party memory manager to optimize avail-
able CONVENTIONAL memory. Aim for at least 600k+ before load-
ing Windows.
5) Avoid having unnecessary programs (such as Solitaire) open when
running productive work.
6) Use a program like MOREMEM4 or 1MBFort to reserve Windows use
of conventional memory for initializing new programs.
7) Add MaxBPS=768 to the [386enh] section of SYSTEM.INI.

Subj: Quicken upgrades...
All,
I'm currently using Quicken 5 For Windows. Is there any reason for
me to upgrade to either v6 or v7 which I've seen discussed here?
