Or delivering unnecessary FIRST shots. There have been cases where the
adrinaline level in the arresting officer was so high "the gun went off
by itself."
If you use a single action autopistol (like a M1911A1) or a standard
double action, you should put a lot of training into keeping your finger
OFF the trigger. The proper method of holding a weapon on someone is
with the tip of the trigger finger touching the forward bow of the
trigger guard, NOT the trigger itself.
The FBI at one time (and perhaps still) taught agents to "prep" the
trigger -- that is, to take up all the slack -- when holding a suspect
at gunpoint. I wonder how many people they've decide were deadly
threats AFTER they'd surrendered.
