Further to my last - bad conditions continue. The Microcom still holds. After D/L of some 3.5 Mb at just under 3000cps, I took some stats. 70+ Blers, 5 retrains, two from one end, three from the other. The line is rotten, with some sort of recurrent interference. Looks like the error handling on the DeskPorte is pretty hot stuff - and this may be what's making it through. Doesn't explain the E5 doing so well at 9600 though - perhaps it's just narrowband enough not to see it?? Interesting - the Tx/Rx levels are about 8db down on the usual. With the VFC, this should not be dynamically negotiated, as I remember. Gain changes? Level shifts? Crikey. Give me a BREAK Telstra... Don't want Franks' job thanks.. not a bit of it. Hope Optus local loop is better. Sure gonna try it.
