| subject: | ATM Home made Aluminum Oxide Grit w/Talc |

I have had great success so far (about 2 years) in grinding out a 16",
f4.5 ,1 " thick plate glass mirror. I have completed 200 minutes of 9
micron grit with no apparent scratches, even under magnification. This is
my first mirror, and things are going well. I keep reading about the risk
of scratches with 5 micron grit. I heard there is a 5T micron grit in which
the T designates "talc" in the grit mixture and lessens the
likely hood of scratches. Does it make sense to think I could add Talcum
powder available off the shelf from almost any store as a home made 5T
micron girt? I am using a ceramic tile tool in dental stone and was
wondering if anyone has ever tried this? Thanks
