Rob,
a friend of mine is doing a 10" RC right now, he's using a Lateral
wire tester (modeled after mine), it works just as well for testing
hyperbolas as for parabolas.
When I was making my first mirror I had it an almost perfect hyperbola, I
was doing the equations wrong for the Foucault reduction, I didn't take
into account it was a moving source or fixed source (whichever way it was,
I don't remember), anyway I THOUGHT I had a parabola!
As for cameras, give the StarlightXpress cameras a look, the MX7C camera
would do very well for you and costs $1300 or so, a lot less than most SBIG
cameras. You can also do guiding from the camera without an external
guider. I'm getting a MX716 the "B&W" version, I like the
color from a set of exposures through filters better, but its more work.
