The birds perished from environmental stresses caused by non-native species
and virus.
You asked a good question however it's a little premature to ask since we
are still in the
very early stage of cloning. A bigger obstical at the moment is trying to
replicate an
organisim without the impact of aging. It seems that aging is one of the
biggest problems
to be solved in cloning. Dolly (the first cloned sheep) died at 6 years of
age, half the life of
a normal sheep.
