Apparently some people just don't get it. I am concerned that my daughter
and her play mates will see the film, or even promos for it, and draw
conclusions about me and visually impaired people because of how Mr. Magoo
acts in the film. I have endured taunts like "he's like Magoo", when I was a
child in a public school classroom. what about those blind children
struggling for exceptance by their clasmates.
I ran into a man in the elevator at convention who told me he was ridiculed
by a neighbor in his town, and called a "Mr. Magoo", with all the bitterness
and venum of someone who didn't like him and was afraid of him because of his
blindness.
I don't believe we can stop disney from putting out this film, but the
publicity we get from this may get people thinking about the issue.
For those who think we don't have the "power" to help people with getting
jobs, and all the other things we do, I would say, youmissed a great
convention last week--full of positibe reports of progress based on NFB's
efforts. Sory you are so negative and full of hate. Your efforts would be
better spent helping all of us.
