Hi,
CM> Not a good idea ... not all mailers send EMSI requests
Every one I've ever connected to does. Granted, I may not have had
the opportunity to connect with every type of mailer in the world,
but I'd wager the overwhelming majority of BBSs running a mailer are
running one of those that *do* send the string. Since you apparently
know of some that don't, which ones are they?
CM> and some BBS's also send emsi requests
The only cases of this I've run across are those BBSware with built-in
mailers, and (from experience) the method I proposed works well with
those, too.

We're talking about running a script, which usually means unattended.
Even if what you suggest were to happen (which I've also never
encountered), what negative effect would having ANSI toggled off, or
cancelling the logon screen have? The person running the script
wouldn't be there to notice the difference. FWIW, I personally run all
my scripts in TTY mode precisely to bypass any ANSI detection. A goodly
portion of my scripts dial LD boards, and every second can count towards
cost. No ANSI = faster sessions.
