I just read that Bruce Springsteen had this to say at Seeger's birthday
celebration:

"You outlasted the bastards!"

I've read some transcripts of the congressional publicity stunt...I mean
"investigation" into communism in entertainment that Seeger testified at,
and Seeger made the "commie hunting" grandstanding congressmen look like
the prize fools they were.

Those congressmen are dead and discredited, while Seeger brought out the
best for his birthday.
