If that's the thruput your getting your only got a 14400 connect, A
true 19200 connect will give you about 2100->2200 CPS on compressed
files.

You will find your modem is reporting DTE (terminal speed) instead of
DCE (connect speed) on my modem the W command controls this, check
your modem's docs to see how yours is setup.
