Heck the cops believed the hype. Few others did but The Gov needed to show
how tough it was (in part to ie into the Bush-Blair post 9-11
"vision" which included clamping down on freedoms internally etc)
so it's loyal foot soldiers followed (mucho as US mil people somehow
"believed" in invading Iraq coz the Prez said it was a good
thing).
