 Robin,
 This is very easy do, 1st start a new drawing and set up for whatever size
 sheet you wish to plot (limits, text style-height etc) the in R12 dos
 go to DRAW drop down and pick IMPORT TEXT at the File To Read Prompt type 
 in the path and complete file name and hit enter you then follow the prompt
 and place the text where you want it.
 In windows it is much easier, you just open whatever edit program you are 
 using and copy to clipboard switch tasks to your open ACAD drawing and 
hoose
 import with the acad entity radio option and place text on drawing
