Something close to it exists - Some Synchronet sysops (myself included) have been able to set up vBullein to link in with Synchronet's message base via a NNTP add-on for vBulletin. It generally seems to work fairly well. I have mine set up so that users only gain vBulletin access once they log in as a new user via telnet and are verified that way.
