I don't think you are correct Bob. There could be a mutation that is a
more prolific breeder or more aggressive, or in effect a predator to these
perfectly adapted bacteria. Then poof they don't exist any longer. I
don't think there is anything as perfectly suited when it comes to their
not being a possibly more survivable adaptation.
