Saying something 'devolved' is the problem. Our sense of smell is not what
our ancestor's was. Does that mean we devolved? Whales can no longer walk
on the land. is that devolution?
Blind fish at the bottom of the ocean. The loss of our prehensile tail - I
used to be a _much_ better climber.
You say 'devolved' as if there were a destination. There's not. There's
no devolved. There's movement. Devolution is a judgment call. There's a
biological price for everything. Are whales worse off now that they can't
walk any more?
Saccharomyces cerevisiae can't digest certain sugars any more. Pity. I
think S. uvarum makes for better beer. But is it devolution? Only if
you're an ale fan...
