BA> You're confusing privacy with security. There hasn't been any privacy
BA> in this country for years, if not decades.
I'm sure you can legally shoot the sheriff for entering your house without a
search warrant - at least in Texas. ;-)
BA> While it's true that NSA is vacuuming up enough material to fill the
BA> Library of Congress every week or so, it's getting very much more
BA> difficult for them to break the encryption systems some folks are using.
Is it? I remebmer reading a paper on malware and it stated that about 30% of
all computers connected to the internet were infected with something.
BA> Plus, increasing volumes of traffic are being sent over fiber lines
BA> rather than via satellite. In effect, NSA is slowly going deaf.
Fibers can be tapped, too. You can even do that without interrupting traffic.
But do you need to? It's more efficient to use a trojan horse, because that way
you also get the unencrypted traffic. And you can make them do "cloud
computing" to store evering on Google Documents ...
BA> Remember about ten years ago the big stink when Phil Zimmerman released
BA> PGP to the public?
No, I just remember all the guys who always said open source software was more
secure because everyone can read the source code and find mistakes, backdoors
and so on. And then we had all those OpenSSL "bugs" that existed for years.
BA> The government wanted to throw him in jail for
BA> several lifetimes for doing that. Note that any "approved" encryption
BA> systems have backdoors so the government can easily read whatever is
BA> being encryupted.
Do they? You can do S/MIME using OpenSSL, Thunderbird, which are secure because
they're open source ... :-)
BA> Insofar as all the surveillance cameras are concerned I seldom go where
BA> any of them are.
Where would that be when everyone is "playing" Pokemon Go?
BA> With regard to the explosions of camera-carrying drones,
Let's call them players. :-)
BA> a while back some fellow blew one away with a shotgun - it was
BA> hovering maybe fifty feet above his yard. The drone owner sued him
BA> for damages, I don't remember the outcome but I hope the drone owner
BA> lost.
His next drone will probably have a small gun for self-defense. :-)
