Thanks for all your help.  For the moment, I've got a family visitor, so I
won't have time to test it.  So meanwhile I'm making sure the lap gets a
good pressing, on the theory that the outer edges of the lap weren't
getting pressed well.

At least, that's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

It IS interesting that so many people have the same problem.
