Well, they weren't exactly racking up the wins WITH Greg Vaughn, so I
have to agree with the owners in some respect. But then again, I don't
like building a team around home runs, so Vaughn isn't my type of player.
That's why I'm afraid the Mariners aren't going to go much farther in
the playoffs this year than last (assuming they get there in the first
place!), because they rely too much on home runs for my taste.
EG> Deficit spending? In most cases, the deficit is built by continual

Again, you seem to emphasize that winning is only possible by spending
more money, yet you argued the exact OPPOSITE point earlier! ?
EG> I'm not responding to your point because it's untrue. A team like SD
EG> isn't spending more than it's taking in, it was taking in less WHILE
That's quite a stance; you're not going to respond because you believe
it to be untrue?! I'm guessing you weren't in debate in high school...
SZ> Obviously the owners think this is the case, else why would they be

EG> They're asking for it because the small markets are pushing for it.
EG> The larger markets are willing to help them but they don't want it to
I agree that a minumum would be a good idea. How do you feel about the
possiblity of a salary cap? I haven't heard much about that in the
current negotiations (which may be completed when you read this! We can
only hope!), but it's an idea I've heard offered before. I'm not sure
what effect it would have upon the league; it sure hasn't made much of
a difference to the Bulls dominance in basketball...
... You may ask yourself, how do I work this? -Talking Heads
