| subject: | BBS nostalgia |
I was recently reading an article I ran into online about a BBS software package and started to feel a little nostalgic about BBSing in the early 90s. One thing I really liked back then was that many BBSs had their own unique look and identity. I enjoyed looking at what different BBSs had to offer in terms of user-friendliness, creativity, and overall look & feel. I also enjoyed (and still do enjoy) running my own BBS - I like trying to create an onlin esystem with a good user experience and building up a base of users who (hopefully) enjoy coming back. Another thing I really liked was the diversity of BBS software packages available. I always thought that the BBS software package played a part in the BBS's look and feel (and its identity), although I suppose any BBS could be set up to look and feel like just about anything (depending on its flexibility). I also liked looking at different BBS software packages to see different peoples' perspectives on how an online system could be set up and run, from an admin standpoint. There really are many ways of doing something, and these days, it seems that everything online is web-centered, and as it's all web-based, in a way it all seems the same, and thus less interesting than when BBSs were more popular.
