1237c8c8c961 c_echo Hello Jerry - >>> Good heavens, Charles! What has that to do with the price >>> of bread? I am not in the least concerned with Bob's >>> business practices. It's none of my business. It is between >>> him and his client. >> It was until Bob explained it in detail here which implies >> he is looking for input. Y/N? JC> Bob did not ask for input on his business practices, but JC> merely for anybody who might know how to contact the author JC> of a book. If that's all he wanted we didn't need the long explanation of what he is doing and how he is doing it. I think you have selective consciousness. JC> You responded with little short of accusations of his JC> attempting to steal the book -- despite the fact that his JC> only real reason to contact the author is to attempt to JC> compensate him for his work. If Bob's intent was to use it JC> without giving credit, he'd have had no reason to post here JC> in the first place. No, I said he was going to sell a three page bibliography that was of no value without the book that he intended to also sell to them. This was his _second_ suggestion. Read the entire thread before you jump to conclusions. >> That wasn't what I was saying. I was referring to what it >> _seemed_ to me, based on Bob's description, that Bob's >> employers were after - full documentation. JC> ...which, obviously, is why Bob wants copies of the book JC> itself available. My guess is that his document would give JC> specific recommendations, referring to the book as to why JC> those recommendations make sense. That is a bibliography, not documentation. JC> It all comes back to economics: he can either reproduce the JC> book or he can reproduce the work that went into the book. JC> Reproducing the book itself is almost certainly less JC> expensive (in fact, the whole reason most technical books JC> are written at all is to avoid reproducing the work that JC> went into them). >> Sorry if I was a bit terse. I really did get a bit ticked at >> being asked to explain why I recommended that Bob update his >> 'source' and choose an American author (that would be easy >> to purchase books from if you are in the USA where Bob is - >> I think?). I'm sick of all this PC twinkle-toes can't say >> Americans are any good at anything anymore cr*p. JC> Nobody said otherwise -- in fact, for better or worse, an JC> awful lot of really good books on programming do seem to JC> have the US as their source -- frequently the authors and JC> publishers are both American. Nonetheless, there are also JC> excellent programmers, authors, etc., in other parts of the JC> world as well. Taking the nationality of the author or JC> publisher as a recommendation for or against a book seems JC> nonsensical to me. 'American' isn't one nationality. We are every country in the world unlike some (the French?) who struggle so very hard to remain _only_ French. If Bob was in Germany I would've said find a German author. As I've explained ad nauseum the reference was to Bob's comment that the publisher wouldn't sell the book in the USA so find one that does sell here. You people are really paranoid aren't you? >> I was feeling old and grouchy I guess. JC> You may have been feeling old and grouchy, but it seems to JC> me that you acted childish and silly. Seems to me you see what you want to see because of your own insecurities and I think your perceptions are totally distorted by your paranoia. > > , , > o/ Charles.Angelich \o , > __o/ > / > USA, MI < \ __\__ ___ * ATP/16bit 2.31 * ...
