Yes. I forget where, maybe Whipsnade, but I remember finding it a very
depressing experience. They're beautiful creatures, but they just didn't
seem very interested in staying alive, if that makes any sense.

Maybe species have a clock running, analogous to cells' telomeres, which
just tells them when to shut down.
