The makers of the film "Arachnophobia" turned to NZ for spiders
that were big and scary looking, but harmless to humans. They're huntsman
spiders, useful around the house because they keep the other bugs down like
geckos do.

We also have one of the worlds largest insects: a flightless relative of
the grasshopper, called a Weta. We have almost a hundred subspecies, the
largest of which are up to 90 mm (3.5 inches) body length and up to 71g
(3.5 ounces, about 3 times the weight of a mouse).
