Those same points were  raised en masse by the Republican chorus, including
then-Govenor Bush, when Clinton was committing troops to the Balkans.

When I pointed this out a few weeks ago, GaryB informed me that 9/11
changed everything and the doctrine, hard learned through the lessons of
Korea and Vietnam (several million dead, of which some 100,000 were
American), was no longer operative.
