Bloody hell, that doesn't sound too clever then.  Have you tried disabling
the 3429 symbol rate, just in case the Simplemodem (which uses a miserable
8-bit controller, BTW) has problems similar to the Hayes Optima?

Bloody hell, you've tried just about everything.  About the only thing left
is your trellis coding.  Have you tried disabling 64-State trellis with
S55=8 ?

And yes, I'm REALLY clutching at straws now.  :)

Now that's _really_ weird, as V.34 should theoretically be superior to
V.32bis at the same 14k4 class link rates.  What's the Courier's S/N ratio
like?
