Peter, at 10:09 on Jun 14 1996, you wrote to Bill Grimsley... PC> Already thought of that and tried it, no luck :-( Bloody hell, that doesn't sound too clever then. Have you tried disabling the 3429 symbol rate, just in case the Simplemodem (which uses a miserable 8-bit controller, BTW) has problems similar to the Hayes Optima? PC> also tried S27=32 to disable V42 and use MNP4, no luck What have they done to the line; replaced it with wet string, or what? PC> if i can remember them all i've also tried PC> S56=64 Disable V34 PC> S54=128 Disable V.8 mode Either of those will completely disable V.34. Did V.FC work any better? PC> S54=32 Disable 3429 symbol rate That's the next one I'd have tried. Incidentally, do you normally run with V.8 CI tones disabled (S54=64) ? Just a thought... PC> S51=64 Disable SREJ, The USR after call stats state that SREJ is on after PC> the failed connect even though i doubt the Simple modem supports SREJ. Dunno, some Rockwells (like the Viper) do actually support SREJ. PC> There may have been other settings i've tried Bill but have forgotten PC> about, If you can suggest anything else i'm willing to try it. This PC> problem is more of a "it won't beat me" problem than anything serious PC> as the Netcomm does the mail poll and it seems to work without problem. Bloody hell, you've tried just about everything. About the only thing left is your trellis coding. Have you tried disabling 64-State trellis with S55=8 ? And yes, I'm REALLY clutching at straws now. :) PC> BTW if i force V32bis with the USR it connects just fine with PC> V42/V42bis etc. Now that's _really_ weird, as V.34 should theoretically be superior to V.32bis at the same 14k4 class link rates. What's the Courier's S/N ratio like?
