AC>Hi there,
AC>I'm fairly young (19) (Compared to alot of of air r/c'ers that is). If
our
AC>clubs has young members or dare devils kinda guys, ever tried dog fights?
AC>You probably heard about it. Of course, you don't use any kind of plane. A
AC>cheap trainer is best. You can download files about all over. if you
ave
AC>access on the Internet, you are sure to find some... somehwere!
AC>If played with skilled pilots, its very fun! But watch out for the
ewbies!
AC>They don't know how to use the stick. And not only will his plane crash
ut
AC>yours as well. That's why it should be open to skilled pilots only. Less
AC>crashes and more fun!
AC>When I say dog fight, what it is is a 5m ribbon attach to the end of your
AC>plane. The goal is to cut as much off with your prop. The one who has the
AC>most ribbon, wins! Pretty easy and like I said, very fun!
Appreciate your comment Alain. Several of the experienced pilots have
had dog fights. Have seens several good crashes from them too. About
a month ago had two colide in mid air and the worst of the two got his
whole tail section cut off and slammed into the ground. Had a nice
"barrel burn" for what was left of the plane once all the important
stuff was taken out.
Anyhow, since I am what I consider still one of the "newbies" that is
part of my point. Things like that are for the more experienced and
when new pilots or individuals that are thinking of joining the club
ask what the club has to offer, they want to know what it has to offer
for them. That is where we run into trouble. You don't want pilots
that still fly trainers up there doing dog fights or club 20 races or
pylon races, etc... BUT, still there must be something that can be
offered to the new pilots and intermediates that do not yet feel
comfortable doing all those crazy things yet... Besides, this hobby
is not exactly "cheap".. and a new pilot does not want to see his
first new plane go crashing into the ground just after dishing out
around $300-$400 for it all...
We do have a few younger pilots (say 17 to 21) that love to "hotdog"
it when they come out. They always do it when the oldies are not
around and after about 15 to 20 minutes they will crash, pick up the
remains, and go home to fix it for the next time. They don't care
about the club in general, never show up to clean up or mow the grass
and could care less that the weeds need to be cut, trash empitied,
etc... They pay their dues, fly and say goodbye...
