I speculate your buffer's being overloaded and you don't have flow
control set properly.  I further speculate you may have to set up
Telix for hardware (CTS-RTS) flow control and turn everything else
off.  I also speculate this may be an external modem, your I/O card
may have an 8250 UART chip which doesn't support CTS-RTS hardware
flow control, and you may have to upgrade the chip to a 16550AFN or
get a card which has one.
