not all messages carry DOS-think CRLFs... in fact, if you look at my
messages, i think you'll find that the only CR or CRLF comes at the end of
a paragraph ;)

one must also note how many messages are created... there is a lot of
software out there that enforces a user's local linelengths by placing
CRLFs at the end of each line so that that user's formatting is
preserved... no, i don't agree with it as there are times that i read mail
in a 132 column screen width ;)
