JS> Let me clarify. BUT for the fact he is the President, therefore CIC,
JS> and therefore a, God help me for saying this, role model (shudder),
JS> his behavior should be at the highest standard. If he were NOT
JS> President, then this would be a matter between him and Hillary.
For any who still don't get it, John is pointing out that
Clinton, like it or not (and I certainly don't) is a role model
to all Americans. This may be just a matter of his celebrity
to many, but for those in the Armed Forces it is much more. As
Commander-In-Chief, the President is the one to whom every
service-member must look for leadership. He sets the standards
of conduct for all military personnel, and we (voters, both in
and out of uniform) must never let the CInC get away with "do as
I say, not as I do" when it comes to setting standards..
JS> My belief is the opposite. The fact that he IS our leader, he should
JS> be held to the highest standards.
Absolutely! I don't understand why anyone would want a leader
who doesn't adhere to a higher standard than the average person.
I know my own weaknesses and frailties -- how could I ever
follow someone who is less worthy to lead than I? Merely being
a professional politician doesn't make Bill Clinton suitable for
elected office -- if it did, we wouldn't have or need more than
one political party, and it wouldn't be so much a party as a
politicians' guild, complete with its own apprenticeship program.
JS> She appears to be a proponent of the dumbing down of America.
Perhaps she's just carrying on a family tradition. Or, in the
much-quoted words of Forrest Gump, "Stupid is as stupid does."
JS>How can one justify the Senior NCOs now languishing in Leavenworth f
JS>behavior that is similar if not identical to that of their CIC? What
JS>Lt. Kelly Flynn? And more importantly, WHERE is Patricial Ireland du
JS>all this?
Regarding military personnel, punishing them while letting
Slick slide is hypocrisy on the part of the nation. Of course,
because they _are_ career military personnel, even the
sleaziest of them have an understanding of "honor"; Clinton,
apparently, does not. As for Patricia Ireland and the NAG Gang,
I couldn't possibly add a thing to what you said (below) --
you described the situation perfectly!
JS> Exactly. So where's Patricia Ireland and the rest of the NAG gang?
JS> Silent. VERY silent. Why? Because to a LIbEral, the ends justify the
JS> means. Or to put it another way, they're willing to compromise their
JS> ideals, their beliefs, their core thoughts, for the political and
JS> financial power they crave. It puts them in par with a $20 whore
JS> peddling herself on any American main street. No, actually lower,
JS> since the whore admits what she is up front. These people cloak
JS> themselves in righteous idignation and elitism.
JS> You could be right. We would have to have Clinton resign first which
JS> is highly unlikely before we'd see what Gore would do.
Resignation would be the right thing to do, which almost
certainly guarantees that Clinton won't do it...except perhaps
if he's forced to do so in order to squelch the revelationn of
something *much* more serious than anything currently being
officially investigated.
JS> Despite Sam Donaldson saying last week Clinton's problem would come to
JS> a head in a matter of days and not weeks or months, it isn't going to
JS> be that easy.
You're right. Clinton's most important talent may well be his
ability to stall and delay until the public interest wanes.
JS> Some in the press are a bit peeved with Billy Bob. They trusted him,
JS> went to bat for him, made excuses for him and got dumped on by him in
JS> this latest scandal.
Yep. They didn't much care when Clinton was just lying to the
American people -- but now he's clearly deceived _them_, and
now they want vengeance.
JS> And if given a choice between the facts and truth vs. spin doctors,
JS> media hype, etc. the truth and facts lose out each and every time.
JS> Because we tend, as a nation, to vote Dow Jones and not Paula Jones.
True enough -- but this actually might work against Clinton
and/or Gore. The Dow, and the economy in general, have been
doing very well for quite awhile now. If the current boom
should end, though, the incumbent in 2000 will have a real
problem on election day. There are indications that the
economy's already running out of steam, although that isn't a
certainty.
JS> This issue is going to be as devisive as the OJ Simpson trials.
No argument here!
